This Morning 3 Tectonic Earthquakes Occurred, Sangihe BPBD Forbids Residents From Going Near The Peak Of Mount Awu Because It Is Dangerous

MANADO - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Sangihe Islands Regency, North Sulawesi Province, until now still prohibits residents from approaching the peak of Mount Awu because of its level III alert status.

"Until now, Mount Awu is still on alert level III, so we still prohibit people from approaching the top of the mountain," said Head of Sangihe BPBD, Wandu Labesi in Tahuna, Antara, Monday, August 8.

According to him, the public and visitors, as well as tourists should not approach and move within a radius of 3.5 kilometers from the crater of the summit of Mount Awu because it is very dangerous.

"The appeal not to be in a 3.5 kilometer radius should be obeyed by all members of the community," he said.

He said that on Monday there had been 3 distant tectonic earthquakes with an amplitude of 10-44 mm and an earthquake duration of 65-80 seconds. The situation of Mount Awu to this day is still very dangerous to approach because earthquakes are still happening.

However, he said, people around Mount Awu are expected to remain calm and not be provoked by issues regarding the activities of Mount Awu that cannot be justified.

"People are expected to only follow directions from the government through the Regional Disaster Management Agency for the Sangihe Islands Regency," said Wandu Labesi.
