Indonesia Is Not Included In The Top 10 Producers Of The World Halal Industry, Erick Thohir: Until When Will We Only Be A Market?
JAKARTA - Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Erick Thohir regrets that Indonesia is not included in the top 10 countries producing the world's halal industry. In fact, Indonesia is a country with the largest Muslim population in the world.
Should, said Erick, as a country with the largest Muslim population in the world, Indonesia has great potential for the sharia economy and the halal industry ecosystem.
“How long will our market only be a source of economic growth for other countries? Our top 10 did not enter, even Brazil, the United States (US), and even Taiwan. This must be our introspection together," he said in Jakarta, quoted on Friday, August 5.
So far, Erick said, Indonesia was only ranked fourth as a country with world consumption of halal products.
Therefore, the General Chair of the Islamic Economic Community (MES) is also determined to make Indonesia a big player in the world's halal industry. Given the market and resources owned by Indonesia is very large.
"Don't let our nation just become a market for other countries, don't let our nation be just a spectator. This is what we must knit and strengthen," he said.

Erick said that this was in line with the theme of the 22nd anniversary of MES, namely accelerative, collaborative, and contributive. Erick believes that MES can build an inclusive sharia financial and economic system and be able to become a driving force for Muslim entrepreneurs to turn productive Muslimpreneurs into a driving force for the people in Indonesia.
To realize and accelerate this, said Erick, MES together with SOEs and the community must be able to work together and collaborate so that together we can provide greater benefits and contributions to the nation and society.
With mutual cooperation, Erick is optimistic that the majority of the people in this country will not only become foam, but also become waves in the economy for all Indonesian people.
“The goal is to create an Indonesia that is Advanced, Prosperous, and Global. Once again, I wish MES a happy 22nd birthday," said Erick.
