FMD Outbreak Still Rampant, North Sumatra Provincial Government Calls Sacrifice Committee to Educate
MEDAN - The Provincial Government of North Sumatra educates the sacrificial committee ahead of the celebration of Eid al-Adha 1443 Hijrah. The sacrificial committee was given an understanding of the procedures for slaughtering sacrificial animals in the midst of an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).
In addition, the Governor of North Sumatra, Edy Rahmayadi, also issued a circular to all regents and mayors ahead of the slaughter of sacrificial animals. The letter was then submitted to the sub-district head and village head for follow-up.
"About the mechanism for slaughtering sacrificial animals during FMD", said the head of the North Sumatran Food and Livestock Security Service, Azhar Harahap, as quoted by Antara, Saturday, July 9.
The North Sumatra Provincial Government has also intensified education on the handling of FMD in several locations. The hope is that people will get guaranteed goat or beef meat.
"We have carried out socialization, especially regarding the implementation of the slaughter of sacrificial animals on the religious holiday of Eid al-Adha", he said.
In addition to socialization, he said, his party also conducts monitoring and evaluation in all regencies and cities, in the context of conducting restrictions on livestock.
"We quarantine the sick cattle so they don't join the healthy ones", he said.
He asked for community participation in handling FMD, namely by reporting to the local FMD Task Force if they found an animal that was indicated to be unhealthy.
