BP2MI Ensures Fast Action Checks The Conditions Of Indonesian Migrant Workers In The Malaysian Detention Center
JAKARTA - Head of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Agency (BP2MI), Benny Rhamdani, said his party was moving quickly to confirm reports of dozens of Indonesian citizens dying in Malaysian detention centers and continuing to carry out processes to ensure the conditions of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in local detention centers.
"We moved quickly, the news that was conveyed by friends of the Sovereign Migrant Workers Coalition (KBMB), we came to the Embassy (Malaysia in Indonesia) to confirm the news", said the Head of BP2MI, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, July 7.
He said the Malaysian Embassy in Jakarta had clarified that the 149 migrant workers who died were the total number of foreign workers who died in Malaysia. Meanwhile, PMI who were declared dead were 18 people.
Benny said that he had held a meeting with the KBMB to explore information regarding the dozens of Indonesian citizens who died in detention in Malaysia.
After the meeting, he admitted that he had sent letters to the Ministry of State Secretariat of the Republic of Indonesia, the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia, and the Malaysian Embassy in Indonesia to make a visit which was previously scheduled for July 7, 2022.

However, according to him, the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia advised postponing the visit because it was waiting for permission from the Malaysian immigration authorities to see the detention house.
"Still waiting for the schedule. But regarding our quick response, we have done it", said Benny Rhamdani.
