Indonesian Contingent Targets 105 Gold Medals For ASEAN Para Games 2022, NPC Chair: Thailand's Big Rival
JAKARTA - Indonesia will host the 2022 ASEAN Para Games in Solo, Central Java. The host contingent is targeting the overall champion position.
To achieve this target, the Indonesian contingent is aiming for 105 gold medals. Although it is not easy, the chairman of the Indonesian NPC, Senny Marbun, is optimistic that he can achieve this target.
"From 14 sports with an estimated 105 gold medals, Thailand's arch-rival is estimated to get 95 or 96 gold, we are optimistic," said Senny as quoted from the official website of the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
As is known, Indonesia will field 321 athletes. This number is more than previously planned. Initially, the Indonesian NPC only sent 210 representatives, but eventually, 111 athletes were added.
Besides Indonesia, the country that also sent many athletes was Thailand. The White Elephant Country sent 312 athletes. Meanwhile, Brunei Darussalam and Timor Leste were the countries with the fewest representatives, with 15 athletes each.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Zainudin Amali has appointed Andi Herman as Chef de Mission Indonesia at the 2022 ASEAN Para Games. He also accompanied the Indonesian team at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics.
"He (Andi Herman) became CDM when he was in Japan (Paralympics) and the children (paralympic athletes) were very familiar with him," said the Minister of Youth and Sports.
