Indonesia Masters 2022 Quarterfinals: Anthony Ginting Wins Head-to-Head 4-1 Against Lee Zii Jia
JAKARTA – Indonesia's men's singles, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, will meet Lee Zii Jia in the quarter-finals of the 2022 Indonesia Masters. On paper, the representatives of Merah Putih are superior in head to head.
Anthony is the only male singles representative who will compete in the last eight of the BWF Super 500 event at Istora Senayan, Jakarta, on Friday, June 10.
If you look at the history of the meeting, Anthony should be quite the favorite to come out as the winner against Lee Zii Jia. However, his recent inconsistent performance contrasts with the Malaysian representative.
Lee Zii Jia's appearance has been so fast in the past two years. On the other hand, Anthony's performance fluctuated so that his ranking in BWF was shifted by Lee Zii Jia.
"When asked that (ranking) I don't think about it, I focus more on performance, what we know is that my recent performance has not been good, but the more I come here the better. The focus is on preparing myself first," said the 25-year-old athlete.
So far, Anthony and Lee Zii Jia have met five times. The athlete who was born in Cimahi, West Java, excelled by packing a total of four wins.
The only defeat that Anthony suffered from Lee Zii Jia was the 2021 Sudirman Cup. The latest victory over Lee Zii Jia was obtained by Anthony at the Thomas Cup event in Denmark at the end of last year.
However, Lee Zii Jia is in the best form. He has recently won the Thailand Open 2022 and the 2022 Asian Championships.
Anthony, on the other hand, lost in the last 16 of the German Open 2022, the quarter-finals of the All England 2022, and failed to reach the final at the Swiss Open. His performance also declined in this year's Thomas Cup.

Thus, meeting in the last eight of the Indonesia Masters this year is Anthony's best chance to prove himself on his statistical advantage even though his opponent has already climbed higher in the BWF rankings.
"Definitely want if it's a matter of proof. Who doesn't want to win. However, in my opinion, the key is to be prepared for yourself first," said the athlete who is familiarly called Ginting.
Apart from Anthony, there are five other Indonesian representatives who will compete today. Among them are Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo/Marcus Fernaldi Gideon, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva, Febby Valencia Dwijayanti/Ribka Sugiarto, and Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari.
