Japanese Corruption Fugitive Arrested In Lampung, But Immigration Don't Know When Deportation Process

JAKARTA - The Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkum HAM) does not yet know when to repatriate Mitsuhiro Taniguchi, a fugitive from Japan in the case of corruption in the COVID-19 social aid fund who was arrested in Lampung.

"Regarding the process of repatriating the Japanese citizen, the Directorate General of Immigration will immediately repatriate us after we coordinate with the Japanese Embassy", said the Head of the Immigration Division of Lampung, Edy Eko Putranto in Jakarta, Wednesday, June 8.

However, continued Eko, the Directorate General of Immigration at the Ministry of Law and Human Rights could not confirm or promise when MT would be repatriated to Japan.

"When it is possible to return home, we will inform you", he said.

Mitsuhiro Taniguchi has been detained in the Kalirejo area, Central Lampung. His whereabouts were discovered after checking data on crossings in and out of Indonesia.

The fugitive from the Japanese police was secured by a joint team from Bandar Lampung Immigration, Kalirejo Police, and Central Lampung Police, on Tuesday, June 7, at around 22.30 WIB.

Mitsuhiro Taniguchi is a fugitive in the COVID-19 subsidy fund fraud case. He is called the mastermind of the crime because he gave orders to the three suspects who had been arrested in the fraud case.

They, namely, Rie Taniguchi (45), Daiki (22), and a man whose name has not been disclosed by the police.

The trio received orders from Mitsuhiro to file fake tax returns on behalf of people who had registered with the tax office. Then, they go through the procedure to get the subsidy.
