Failing To Understand The Imposition Of Fines For Violating Articles, A Minibus Driver In Grobogan Accuses The Police Extorting IDR 24 Million

GROBOGAN - The Head of the Grobogan Police, Grand Commissioner Adjutant of Police Benny Setyowadi, explained that a video went viral in which individuals from the Grobogan Police, Central Java, asked the driver for IDR 24 million to pay for evidence of Isuzu Elf's car accident at the Gakkum Unit of the Grobogan Police.

According to Beny, the man who spoke in the 7-minute 27-second video misunderstood. Beny explained the actual chronology. The man in the video is identified as Cipto Utomo, a minibus driver from Demak, with someone who helped make the video.

Before the video circulated, Cipto was driving an Isuzu Elf, and was involved in an accident with a two-wheeled vehicle, but the case has been completed through Restorative Justice (peace between the two parties).

"The results we get while the accident case has been completed through Restorative Justice is only the revocation of the file. However, the perpetrator (Cipto Utomo) had a misperception when reading the article. The article that is read is Article 311 of the LAJ Law which contains 'In the event that the act as referred to in paragraph (4) results in the death of another person, the perpetrator shall be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of 12 years or a maximum fine of IDR 24 million. Mr. Cipto's misperception is that he has to pay IDR 24 million', explained Beny.

Beny also said that Mr. Cipto had read the LAJ Law which was posted in the Grobogan Police Traffic and Law Enforcement Unit. Through the article, he considered that the police asked him for IDR 24 million so that Elf's car could get out.

However, currently the Grobogan Police Propam team is still conducting an investigation to check the SOPs that apply at the Traffic and Law Enforcement Unit. However, if any procedural or SOP errors are found, strict action will be taken.
