Mike Tyson's Advice To Canelo After Beating Bivol: Use Your Jab!

JAKARTA - Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez suffered his second loss in professional boxing last weekend after failing to overcome Dmitry Bivol. He lost by unanimous decision.

Even though all the judges' scorecards showed Bivol as the winner where the result was almost the same (triple 115-113). But, that's something not all fans agree on.

Canelo, who has won world titles in four different heavyweights, moved up to light heavyweight, the class where he reigned supreme after defeating Sergey Kovalev.

But, in last Sunday's duel, Bivol was a wall that Canelo encountered many times.

Mike Tyson, who like Canelo has often faced bigger opponents, explained what caused the Mexican to lose.

'Iron' Mike, who witnessed the fight in person, gave his opinion on the duel.

"I just think if Canelo uses his jab effectively, hard, his opponent won't be able to get in," he was quoted as saying by Marca.

"The guy (Bivol) came in because he wasn't worried about Canelo's jab. So, he became more aggressive, he became bold.

"If he doesn't jabbing, he has no defense. If he doesn't jab, that person will immediately attack him like he did."

To that end, Tyson advised Canelo to use his jab in the planned rematch against Bivol.

“When he (Bivol) is jabbing, Canelo should move, jab, anticipate combinations. If he jabs, that person won't throw the combination," Tyson said.

"If Canelo is going to use his jab, I discussed with my wife (saying), 'He doesn't use his jab', then the next round I see him using his jab it must be because his coach said the same thing to him.

"I believe if he had used his jab it would have been a different fight."

According to Canelo, he would have been more aggressive in the final if he knew he had lost on the scorecard.
