Conor McGregor Vs Kamaru Usman Might Be An Exciting Duel For Us, But This UFC Commentator Doesn't Say
JAKARTA - Conor McGregor is recovering from the injury he suffered recently. Now, he is desperately trying to fight against Kamaru Usman, for the welterweight title.
In his third bout against Dustin Poirier last year, the Irish fighter broke his leg and took a long time to recover.
Since then, he has been on a mission to move up the division and challenge Usman. However, UFC commentator Joe Rogan believes that The Notorious had not properly thought about the duel.
For Rogan, McGregor will have to fight an elite welterweight opponent first who doesn't pose as much of a threat as his champion, Usman.
After all, McGregor not only moved up to the division for the first time in his career, he also returned from a severe fracture.
In a recent episode of Mike Tyson's 'Hot Boxin', Rogan explained what McGregor needed to do, and maybe listening to him wasn't such a bad idea.
"If Conor wants the greatest chance of success I'd say against a guy who's a little below championship level. Maybe a guy where Conor has the edge, but it's still a competitive fight. Give him a test, but don't put him in there right away. Usman," said Rogan, quoted from Marca, Wednesday.
"I think, to be honest, when a boxer comes back from a long break and they come back from a loss, one thing smart boxers do is they have a warm-up fight.
"I think there's a reason why they always use warm-up fights. They know you have to dust off and you'll be better next time around.

"To jump straight into Dustin Poirier or straight into, you name it, Michael Chandler, is like going straight up against the elite man of the elite.
"I think what Conor needs to do is what Conor wants to do. If Conor thinks he can go up and fight Usman and get big payouts, try to be a three-division champion, he has to do that. He has to do whatever he wants to do, but if I'm like a manager to him, and I say what's the best path to success, the best road to success is like fighting Cowboy (Donald Cerrone).
"Don't mean to disrespect Cowboy, but the fight turned out to be kind of a warm-up fight."
