Ridwan Kamil's Response To The Attack On Ade Armando During The April 11 Demo
BANDUNG - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil condemned the violence and attacks on social media activists and University of Indonesia lecturer Ade Armando during a demonstration in front of the Senayan Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Monday, April 11.
Ridwan stated that he firmly rejected any form of violence.
"So, whatever the expression of the argument, never bring violence in its activities, including violence against Ade Armando which should not have happened if everyone could restrain themselves. Moreover, this is the holy month of Ramadan that we must respect," he said.
He said democracy is a system of government, which is directly or indirectly controlled by the power of the people. Like it or not, he continued, democracy is the fruit of an agreement whose goal is the welfare of the Indonesian people.
"Democracy in the agreement has many variations in Indonesia. So, if there is a narrative or discourse in this country that is different from the agreement, of course, it must be expressed and discussed properly whatever the discourse, including the discourse regarding the extension of the presidential term to three terms, which is certainly different from The agreement is only for two periods as written in the 45 Constitution," he explained.

Therefore, he encourages all forms of argumentation should be presented in a good way.
"After deliberation and consensus, whether it changes or not, that's an agreement that must be respected. Whatever the expression of the argument, never bring violence in its activities," he said.
He also appreciated the peaceful demonstration by students in the city of Bandung.
"I thank the students who have demonstrated in an orderly and conducive manner, especially in Bandung. Thank you," he said.
