Minister Nadiem: Scouting Activities In Schools Really Support Character Education

JAKARTA - Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Anwar Makarim said scouting activities really support character building.

"Scouting activities in schools are very supportive of character education which currently prioritizes an independent curriculum and national assessment. All scouting activities are based on the spirit of mutual cooperation, tolerance, and creativity, very much in line with the learning profile of Pancasila," said Nadiem in a written statement in Jakarta, as reported by Antara, Thursday, March 31.

Nadiem added that Scouting activities which are made mandatory extracurricular activities in primary and secondary schools strengthen character education in educational units.

He also invited the National Scout Movement Quarter to seek innovation in Scouting activities carried out in schools.

"Character education, which is now a priority for all of us, is becoming increasingly relevant which can be a provision for our children to be ready to face the future," he said.

Nadiem hopes that the 2022 Scouting National Work Meeting will be able to produce work plans and targets that further support the collaboration of the Scout National Quarter with the Ministry of Education and Culture, especially in promoting scouting education and strengthening character in schools in the country.

Character education needs to be encouraged because there are concerns from parents who are worried about their child's development. This situation becomes a material for correction and evaluation to improve the character education system.

Through the National Assessment, it is also possible to evaluate the achievement of student character learning and to assess the student's educational unit.
