PlayStation Will Present Variable Refresh Rate Feature On PS5 In The Next Months
JAKARTA - Sony's Senior Vice President, Platform Experience, Hideaki Nishino, confirmed several new features for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4. These features will be launched by the Japanese game company in the coming months.
"Our next PS5 and PS4 system software update is rolling out globally today. So we wanted to take a quick look at some of the new features," Nishino said on the PlayStation blog, Wednesday, March 23.
PS4 and PS5 New Features
PlayStation has shared new details about the Variable Refresh Rate for PS5 on HDMI 2.1 compatible TVs and PC monitors that are set to be released in the next few months.
On PS5, PlayStation will bring UI (user interface) improvements to Game Base and Trophy cards, as well as accessibility features like mono audio for headphones.
PS5 players with US or UK registered accounts will be able to test drive the Voice Commands or Preview features which allow them to find and open games, apps, and settings, and control media playback with their voice with only English settings.
PS5 features like how to apply game presets on the console, pin videos and apps to the screen while playing, or share screens with friends, check out the new "Pro Tips" card in Control Center.
PlayStation will gradually roll out the ability for PS App users to create or join Open and Closed Parties through the app as well.
The PS App Base Game UI update is intended to make it easier to access Friends, Party, and messaging features, providing a player experience that's consistent with the PS5.
PS Remote Play mobile app users can enjoy a new "dark mode" based on their phone settings and choose from the new Screen Reader languages for iOS and Android, such as Brazil, Portugal, Finland, Sweden, Turkey, Greece, Thailand, and China.
Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
Nishino also informed that Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) is planned for release on PS5 in the coming months.

VRR will improve visual performance for games on PS5 by minimizing or eliminating issues such as frame rate and screen tearing. Gameplay across many PS5 titles feels smoother when scenes are rendered instantly, graphics look sharper, and input lag is reduced.
As an added option, you can also choose to apply VRR to PS5 games that don't support it. This feature can improve video quality for some games. If this produces an unexpected visual effect, you can disable this option at any time.
"Please note that results may vary depending on the TV you use and the games you play. As we get closer to the feature release, we will share more details, including some games that will enable VRR support via game patches."
