Supports Poland To Send Fighter Jets To Ukraine, British Defense Minister: It's A Big Responsibility
JAKARTA - Defense Minister Ben Wallace has said he will support Poland in supplying fighter jets to help Ukraine if they choose to do so.
In an interview with Sky News, Minister Wallace said he would support the decision taken by his fellow members of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), to supply MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine.
This comes amid reports that the United States and Poland are discussing a similar agreement, with the United States urging Poland to provide Ukraine with Soviet-era fighter jets, to be replaced with US fighter jets. An agreement was initially ignored by the Polish President.
"Poland will understand that the choices it makes will not only directly help Ukraine, which is a good thing, but can also bring them into a direct line of fire from countries like Russia or Belarus", Minister Wallace told Sky News as quoted by March 8.
"They have to calibrate that. That is a very big responsibility on the shoulders of the Polish president and, of course, the defense minister."
"So, it's not my job to second-guess their choices. But, for me as a fellow NATO member to say, I will support Poland", he stressed.
