Concerned About Russia-Ukraine Situation, Gianni Infantino: FIFA Condemns The Use Of Power

JAKARTA - FIFA President Gianni Infantino expressed concern about the developing "tragic and worrying" situation after Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

"I was shocked by what I saw. I am concerned and concerned about this situation. FIFA condemns the use of force," Infantino told a news conference Thursday.

Russia will host the 2022 World Cup play-off with Poland on March 24 and if it wins again on March 29 it will be against the winner between the Czech Republic and Sweden.

But the Football Association of Poland, Sweden, and the Czech Republic have asked Russia not to be allowed to host next month's World Cup qualifiers after their invasion of Ukraine.

"The Polish Football Association (PZPN), Sweden (SvFF), and the Czech Republic (FACR) express their firm position that playoff matches ... should not be played on the territory of the Russian Federation," they said in a joint statement.

The association expects FIFA and UEFA to react immediately and find alternative venues.
