100 Persons With Disabilities In Surabaya Get Wheelchair Assistance
SURABAYA - The National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) of Surabaya City distributed 100 wheelchairs to people with disabilities from low-income groups (MBR).
"I want to tell everyone, that today is the day of declaration for people who can't walk. So we provide wheelchairs and prosthetic limbs", said Surabaya Mayor, Eri Cahyadi, while distributing wheelchairs with Baznas administrators in Surabaya, East Java, Saturday, February 19.
The wheelchair assistance is the result of zakat, infaq, and alms collected by the Surabaya Baznas through the State Civil Apparatus (ASN) within the Surabaya City Government and the people in Surabaya.
The mayor along with his wife and Baznas Surabaya administrators immediately took part in distributing wheelchairs to several recipients in Keputran Kejambon and Panjunan villages, Embong Kaliasin Village, Genteng District.
A number of wheelchair recipients include Moch Sidik (58), a resident of Keputran Kejambon 2/73 Surabaya. Then, Busiti (70), a resident of Keputran Kejambon Surabaya, Siti Fatimah (42), a resident of Keputran Kejambon and Asmilydia (79), a resident of the Keputran Panjunan.

During the distribution of the wheelchair, Mayor Eri Cahyadi and his entourage had to pass through narrow alleys in the village. He did it so that he could meet face to face and see the condition of its citizens.
Eri hopes that all Surabaya residents who have shortcomings can enjoy the facilities in the City of Heroes. Can walk out of the house or establish communication with other residents.
"Later, I will announce it again at a certain point in March, free of stunting and no more poverty", he said.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Surabaya City Baznas, Moch. Hamzah said, in addition to the 100 wheelchairs distributed this month, Baznas also allocated 50 wheelchairs every month.
"For March, if there is a request, we will validate and check based on the RT/RW, sub-district, and OPZ (zakat management organizations) in 31 sub-districts", he said.
