Apple Saves Users From Phishing Attacks With Updated 2FA Feature

JAKARTA - Apple has again tightened its services by adding a new security system to the two factor authentication or 2FA feature when users log in their Apple ID to the device.

The company made changes to the text received when users log in to their Apple ID and select a 2FA code that is sent via SMS.

Previously, Apple sent a message like "Your Apple ID code is 123456. Don't share it with anyone," but now it's changed to, "Your Apple ID code is: 123456. Don't share it with anyone. @apple.com #123456 %apple .com."

These changes will become visible in November 2021. Apple claims this is a way to prevent phishing attempts to intercept and redirect verification codes. The security isn't perfect, but the technique is a simple update to improve defensive measures.

Citing Engadget, Tuesday, February 1, earlier in August 2020, Apple had said that the change would support domain-bound codes for logins.

This kind of code requires the site to make a small addition to the text message used for the verification code. Incoming messages must provide the destination domain and some other data.

The Cupertino, United States (US)-based tech giant stated that this change will improve the integrity of its operating system which offers to autofill code via suggestions in the QuickType bar on iOS and iPadOS, as well as drop-down values in macOS Safari and other macOS apps. who take advantage of this feature.
