8 Indonesian National Team Players Positive For COVID-19
JAKARTA - The coach of the Indonesian national team Shin Tae-Yong said that eight of his players were positive for COVID-19 so they were not included in the FIFA international friendly match against Timor Leste in Bali, Sunday night, which the Garuda Squad won 3-0.
"There are eight positive COVID-19 players and they can't participate in the match. Hopefully, this situation will be considered in the future," Shin said at a press conference after the match.
The South Korean tactician did not mention who his squad personnel suffering from COVID-19.
Of course, they have all been quarantined and will undergo a PCR swab test in the next few days.
Shin Tae-Yong himself admitted that he was confused as to why his players could still be positive for COVID-19 in the midst of their discipline to follow health protocols.
"We adhere to the protocol well," said the South Korean national team coach at the 2018 World Cup.
The COVID-19 storm made the Indonesian national team only bring 16 players to fight Timor Leste.
Despite the limited number of players, the Garuda squad was able to beat their opponent with three goals without reply. This result was highly appreciated by Shin Tae-Yong.
"The players worked hard even though we lacked players," he said.
Indonesian national team attacking midfielder Ricky Kambuaya is also grateful that his squad was able to beat Timor Leste despite the limited number of players.
