Case Of Mass Persecution Of Elderly In East Jakarta, 14 People Are Examined By Police Including Provocateurs Who Shouted Thieves

JAKARTA - The police are investigating 14 people who are suspected of being involved in the case of beating an elderly person named Wiyanto Halim (89). One of them provoked the masses.

"One of the 14 people being investigated was whose motorbike was grazed and then he made a provocation", said Head of Public Relations of Metro Jaya Police, Kombes E. Zulpan to reporters, Monday, January 24.

But Zulpan did not specify the identity of the person who provoked it. However, it was emphasized that it was the person who shouted at the crowd calling Wiyanto Halim a thief.

"Provoking with the screams of thieves", said Zulpan.

With this provocation, the masses around the location thought Wiyanto Halim was a thief. In fact, the real problem is just grazing.

"So people around the car thought there was a stolen car or the person in it was the thief", said Zulpan.

In this case the police have named one suspect with the initials R. He played the role of the person who hit.

Wiyanto Halim was beaten to death by a mob on Jalan Pulo Kambing Raya, Pulogadung Industrial Estate, Sunday, January 23, at around 02.00 WIB.

Wiyanto Halim was shouted at by the thief and chased by the mob until he was beaten to death.

Even though WH was not a thief because he was driving his car. This can be proven by the police through internal checks.
