MANOKWARI - The Commander of Military Command XVIII/Kasuari, Major General TNI I Nyoman Cantiasa, strongly condemned the perpetrators of the attack on five TNI soldiers while carrying out community service tasks in the East Aifat District, Maybrat Regency, West Papua.
Head of Information for Military Area Command XVIII/Kasuari, Colonel Arm. Hendra Pesireron stated that the Commander and the extended family of Military Area Command XVIII/Kasuari, West Papua mourned the death of Second Sergeant Miskel Rumbiak in the attack by this barbaric group.
"We lost one native Papuan son, the best son of the nation's Second Sergeant Miskel Rumbiak who served his land and society, but was treated inhumanely by KKB Maybrat", said Head of Information for Military Command quoting the Commander of the Kasuari Kodam, quoted by Antara, Thursday, January 20.
The Kasuari Military Commander said Sergeant Two Miskel Rumbiak and four members of the injured victims were attacked by the KKB while carrying out their territorial development duties for the benefit of the local community in the East Aifat District.
"Private Yon Zipur 20/PPA is building a pedestrian bridge, the only access link between Fankario village and Kamat village in East Aifat district, Maybrat district, but they were then attacked by KKB", said Head of Information for Military Command.
The Commander of the Kasuari Military Area Command also emphasized that the threat to the real KKB attack in the Maybrat area did not ignite the spirit of the TNI's struggle to defend the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia in West Papua.
"Even if we don't take a step back with this attack, we will continue to fight to defend the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia", said the Commander.

Head of Information for Military Command further stated that it was strongly suspected that the group that attacked the five soldiers of Yon Zipur 20/PPA came from the same group, namely the West Papua National Committee (KNPB).
"We strongly suspect that they are the KNPB Maybrat group which has DPO status after the attack on the preparatory Koramil post in Kisor village last September 2021", said Head of Information for Military Command.
Head of Information for Military Command at a glance explained that the soldiers of the Combat Engineer Battalion 20/Pawbili Pelle Alang abbreviated as Yon Zipur 20/PPA was the organic Engineer Battalion of Military Area Command XVIII/Kasuari.
"The name of this unit is taken from the local language, namely Pawbili: Build, Pelle: Fight, Alang: Warrior, which is interpreted as Soldiers who are ready to Fight and Build", said Head of Information for Military Command.
