230.000 Japanese Residents In Six Prefectures Are Asked To Evacuate Due To Tsunami Risk
JAKARTA - Hundreds of thousands of Japanese citizens were advised to evacuate on Sunday, 16 as waves of more than one meter hit the coastal area, according to a report by Japan's national broadcaster NHK.
The incident was caused by the eruption of an underwater volcano off the coast of Tonga that triggered a tsunami warning.
About 230.000 people were advised to evacuate in six prefectures due to the tsunami risk, NHK reported.

The warning includes areas that were hit by a deadly tsunami in 2011.
A total of 10 boats capsized in Kochi Prefecture on the southern Japanese island of Shikoku, NHK said.
Meanwhile, Japan Airlines has canceled 27 flights at airports across Japan. This was reported by Reuters from Antara.
