BWF Confirms, 2022 Spanish Masters Canceled

JAKARTA - The Badminton World Federation (BWF) has announced that one of the big agendas this year, namely the 2022 Spanish Masters, has been cancelled. The main reason is that Spain, as the host of the event, said it was not ready.

The Spanish Masters 2022 will be held from March 1-6. The tournament was made as the opening agenda in March. However, even though there are still two months left from the schedule, the third series of the 2022 BWF World Tour has certainly failed to take place.

"The Badminton World Federation (BWF) confirms the cancellation of the 2022 Spanish Masters which was scheduled for 1-6 March 2022," said Badminton Europe, badminton's European governing body.

"The Spanish Badminton Federation have concluded that they cannot hold the tournament as planned for Week 9," the statement continued.

Although the 2022 Spanish Masters was not held, the BWF ensured that the other 2022 agendas would continue as before and would not be disturbed by the cancellation of one of the agendas.

"The remainder of the BWF World Tour 2022 calendar has not changed. BWF, in collaboration with the World Tour hosts, remains diligent in preparing for the upcoming tournament despite the changing landscape of COVID-19," the statement said.

Apart from the cancellation, the Spanish Masters itself has a positive impression for Indonesian badminton athletes. Because on the same agenda in 2021, Indonesia managed to become the overall champion in the Spanish Masters after winning four categories.

The four categories won were women's singles by Putri Kusuma Wardani, men's doubles represented by Pramudya Kusumardana/Yeremia Rambitan, women's doubles by Yulfira Barkah/Febby Valencia, and mixed doubles by Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas.
