Sad News, Russian Boxer Dies After A KO Loss That Leaves Him In A Coma For 10 Days
JAKARTA - Boxer of Armenian–Russian descent, Arrest Sahakyan, has died after 10 days in a coma after being hit in a duel on December 26.
The 26-year-old boxer had swelling in his brain and had undergone surgery before he breathed his last on Saturday, January 8th.
The sad news shocked Svetlana Petrosyan, who is a close relative of the boxer. Petrosyan admitted that it was difficult for him to accept the reality that befell his colleague.
"My heart shattered into pieces. I do not believe it. This is like a nightmare," wrote Petrosyan on his personal Instagram account, quoted by Marca, Monday.
Sahakyan lost by knockout (KO) in the eighth round against Igor Semernin. He received such brutal beatings that he had to be rushed to the hospital for prompt treatment.

Arriving at the hospital, the doctor found a swelling in Sahakyan's brain that required surgery. However, post-surgery he remained unconscious until he died on Saturday.
Sahakyan, who is a super middleweight boxer, fought nine times professionally and won six of his fights. Apart from boxing he is also active in mixed martial arts.
Petrosyan confirmed that Sahakyan would be buried in Yerevan, Armenia. However, it is reported that his funeral will take place in Tolyatti, Samarra in Russia on January 11, tomorrow.
