Omicron Variant Case Rises, The 2022 Grammy Awards Officially Postponed

JAKARTA - The biggest music award event in the United States, the 2022 Grammy Awards has officially been postponed. This news was conveyed by the Recording Academy committee on Wednesday, January 5 local time.

"After consideration and analysis with city officials, health and safety authorities, the artist community and our partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Grammy Awards," the committee said in a statement.

"The health and safety of those in our music community, live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our performances remain our top priority."

They put the health of the music industry and the audience and staff who worked hard to make this event happen. The 2022 Grammy Awards scheduled for January 31 will be postponed indefinitely.

This news was released after the Sundance Film Festival postponed the event due to the increasing number of Omicron cases in the United States. It is known that COVID-19 cases in the United States reached 800.000 as of January 5, 2022.

On the other hand, awards such as the Critics Choice Awards and The Academy's Governor Awards were also postponed.

The 64th Grammy Awards will be held at the Staples Center and hosted by Trevor Noah. The list of nominations was also revealed last November where for the first time there were 10 general nominations.

The 2022 Grammy Awards nominations are dominated by Jon Batiste with 11 nominations, Justin Bieber with eight nominations, and Doja Cat with eight nominations.
