Undergoing 5-Day Quarantine, Elkan Baggott Opportunity To Play When National Team Vs Malaysia

JAKARTA - Indonesian national team defender Elkan Baggott was forced to miss the crucial match against Vietnam in the Group B phase of the 2020 AFF Cup tonight. Elkan must undergo quarantine according to Singapore government regulations.

Although absent from this prestigious match, Baggott has the opportunity to appear in the match against Malaysia next Saturday. Baggott's mandatory quarantine period is only five days.

According to the Indonesian Deputy Ambassador to Singapore, Didik Eko Pujianto, the 19-year-old player will undergo quarantine in a place that has been determined by the Singaporean government. If on the last day of quarantine Baggott is tested negative, he can return to his activities.

"Elkan (Baggott) will begin quarantine today at the Pan Pacific Hotel", Didik told VOI, Wednesday, December 15.

"If later on the fifth day the results are negative, on the 18th they can return to their normal activities", continued Didik.

Previously, it was reported that Baggott had to undergo quarantine due to a plane with a passenger who tested positive for COVID-19 on a transit flight to Singapore.

The decision was considered confusing, because in fact since arriving in Singapore on December 8, he had participated in defending the national team against Laos.

Apart from the quarantine process that Baggott must undergo for five days, he is predicted to be able to rejoin the national team on December 18 next. If that's true, then Baggott's opportunity to appear for the national team against Malaysia is wide open.

The reason is, the hot match between the Garuda and Malaysia squad is planned to be held on December 19 at the National Stadium, Singapore at 19.30 WIB. This match became the final match as well as the pride of the national team to be able to advance to the 2020 AFF Cup semifinals.
