Bantimurung Maros Tourism Park Closed Due To Flood
MAROS - The Bantimurung Nature Tourism Park (TWA) in Maros Regency, South Sulawesi was temporarily closed, due to the overflowing flood of the Bantimurung River in the tourist area.
Head of the Culture and Tourism Office of Maros Regency, Ferdiansyah said, in the last three days from 5-7 December 2021 heavy spots of rain lashed this "Butta Salewangang" Earth, causing flooding in residential areas, including the mainstay tourist attraction of Maros Regency which is famous for its waterfalls and endemic butterfly breeding.
The potential for heavy rain accompanied by strong winds had previously been reported by the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) in Maros Regency so that tourism managers took the initiative to temporarily close for the safety of visitors.
According to him, if tomorrow the weather is clear and the water has receded, then the Bantimurung TWA will be reopened to visitors while still observing the COVID-19 health protocols.

Regarding the condition of the Bantimurung River, it is recognized that almost every year during the rainy season it overflows, if the intensity of rainfall is high.
This was confirmed by the Bantimurung TWA officer, Mustari, who supervised visitors and at the same time cleaned the TWA location.
She said, when the river water is cloudy and the volume is large, visitors are not allowed to bathe around the waterfall.
"This is to prevent unwanted things from happening to visitors, even though there are safety tires that are rented out", she said, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, December 7.
