Chipset Technology Is Superior, Samsung Competes The TSMC Market Mercilessly
JAKARTA - Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) is in competition with Samsung Electronics, both of which are working on a 3nm chip process.
However, Samsung is superior in this regard because it brings a different architecture from TSMC, namely 3nm Gate-all-around (GAA). GAA itself is a modified transistor structure in which the gate contacts the channel from all sides and allows advanced scaling.
Samsung chips have different variants, from a DigiTimes report, it is likely that AMD and Qualcomm will be one of the first customers of the new chip process.
Citing Gizmochina, Tuesday, December 7, the list of big brands does not stop there because the South Korea-based company is also claimed to be targeting orders from Nvidia.
That means, the intensity of the 3nm chip race is about to start, as both TSMC (which is the world's largest contract chipmaker) and Samsung are pushing to launch their respective technologies to the market.

As of now, TSMC has started the pilot production of the 3nm process technology. In addition, it plans to start mass production of its advanced chip technology in the fourth quarter of next year.
The first TSMC is gearing up for 3nm processes using the FinFET architecture while the latter, Samsung will roll out processes based on the GAA architecture.
With the ongoing global shortage of semiconductors, it's no surprise that big brands are looking to other chipmakers for their products. With Nvidia, AMD, and Qualcomm known as TSMC clients, then the switch to Samsung marks a major step in the industry as the company also looks to secure a supply of 3nm chips.
