Sri Mulyani Doesn't Want Pertamina Many Reasons About Energy Transition Issues, Leadership Is In The Spotlight

JAKARTA - Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani, encourages the active role of PT Pertamina (Persero) to support the energy transition in Indonesia towards a better direction.

According to the Minister of Finance, Pertamina has a strategic position in realizing this. The reason is, as the largest oil and gas SOE, Pertamina will be a barometer in optimizing environmentally friendly energy sources.

For this reason, the Minister of Finance wants Pertamina to be really serious in working on the new and renewable energy sector and not to override this important agenda with other mission targets.

"So Pertamina is no excuse: ma'am, we have a lot of missions. Yes, it's the same (Ministry of Finance too)", she said in a webinar on Tuesday, December 7.

The Minister of Finance then compared it with the scope of work of the Ministry of Finance, which has mandated tasks in various fields.

“Just like us, who have many fiscal missions in the State Budget, we have to handle various goals, such as education, health, defense, security, and related to equity. But what needs to be remembered is that the energy sector is also important", she said.

Furthermore, the state treasurer believes that Pertamina can pass the energy transition period smoothly if it is supported by elites who have a high visionary spirit.

"We can solve everything if Pertamina is really managed with leadership who believes that the future must be prepared from now on, and we are responsible for preparing it", she said.

The Minister of Finance added that Pertamina must take action as early as possible so that the clean energy transition in Indonesia can be accelerated according to the targets set by the government.

"Once again I want to convey to Pertamina that we at the Ministry of Finance are always ready to be partners to continue to navigate and guard the Indonesian economy to recover, and at the same time prepare for the transition to net-zero emissions", closed the Minister of Finance, Sri Mulyani.
