Fajar Nugros was appointed as director hoping to introduce the legendary comedy group to the younger generation of Indonesia. "We will reintroduce who they are, introduce what their big role was in 1981 when they first joined TVRI," said Fajar as Head of IDN Pictures.
Initially, the original cast of Srimulat started their career in the area. However, they transformed into megastars in Indonesia in the 1980s and 1990s, with tens of millions of fans spread across various regions in Indonesia.
"We all know that Sirmulat is a legendary character. And to be able to reach this human, we explore many things. We check the background of life, a lot of research has been done," said Bio One.
To play the role of Gepeng, Bio One went on a diet so as not to be far from the character he was playing. "Diet? Yes, that's one of them following this figure. Yes, there are many things to do. Studying gestures, because you have to follow this figure, if I'm wrong, you don't feel good with people out there who think he's legendary," he explained.
As the first comedy group to successfully appear on national television, Srimulat's jokes seem to be still relevant in the lives of the younger generation.
