KUPANG - Investigators of the Corruption Crime of the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) High Prosecutor's Office have detained the former Kupang Regent, Ibrahim Meda, in connection with the alleged corruption case in the sale of land and building assets belonging to the Kupang Regency Government.

"Today the NTT High Prosecutor's Office has detained the IAM suspect. The detention was carried out after the investigators obtained two pieces of evidence that were sufficient to determine the suspect and arrest him", said Head of the Legal Information and Public Relations Section of the NTT High Prosecutor's Office, Abdul Hakim, in Kupang, quoted by Antara, Friday, December 3rd.

He explained that the former regent of Kupang for two terms was detained at the Kupang Detention Center for the next 20 days.

According to him, the NTT High Prosecutor's Office will expedite the completion of the investigation into the case of the transfer of assets of the Kupang Regency Government with the suspect Meda so that it can be immediately transferred to the court for trial.

"For now, there is only one suspect. We will see later in the trial process whether there is the involvement of other parties in the case", said the judge.

He explained that the state losses in the case that dragged the former chairman of Regional Representative Council I of Golkar Party and former Regional Representative Council members reached IDR 9.6 billion.

According to the Judge, Meda in March 2009 issued a Decree of the Regent of Kupang concerning the approval of the sale of class III official house belonging to the Kupang Regency Government on behalf of Meda to the Kupang Regency government's assets in the form of land covering an area of 1,360 square meters and a building covering an area of 210 square meters.

"Furthermore, the land and building assets were transferred without any compensation being paid for the assets without the knowledge of the Kupang Regency Government in 2016", said Hakim.

Meda continued Hakim, submitted an application for a certificate of ownership to BPN Kupang, and an SHM was issued in the name of the suspect and then sold to a third party with the initials JS in 2017 for IDR 8 billion.

Based on the calculations of the appraiser and the Kupang Regency inspectorate, the region suffered a loss of IDR 9.6 billion. "Land and building assets have been confiscated by investigators as evidence", he said.
