Hiding Under A Chair For Six Hours, A Shop Thief In Matraman Takes Away Millions Of Rupiah
JAKARTA - A young man with the initials AR (22) was arrested by residents because he was caught breaking into a grocery shop on Mangga Street 7E, Number 42, RT 05/06, Utan Kayu Utara Village, Matraman District, East Jakarta. The victim, Haji Sadikin, lost millions of rupiah.
According to Hidayat Tulloh (34), the victim's son, the perpetrator was arrested while hiding in his rented house after the theft occurred. The perpetrator was arrested on Mangga Ujung street, RT 015/06, Utan Kayu Utara Village, Matraman, not far from the scene.
"What was stolen by the perpetrators were two bags containing Rp3 million each and a piggy bank containing around Rp500 thousand," said Hidayat Tulloh when confirmed by VOI, Monday, November 8.
The theft was also caught on CCTV cameras in the vicinity of the shop. From the CCTV video footage, the perpetrator was seen leaving the victim's shop at around 22.30 western Indonesia time.
"It happened at night. The perpetrator was arrested according to his characteristics and recognized. Tracking from CCTV footage as well," said Dayat, the victim's child.
Dayat said, from the perpetrator's confession, the theft began when the perpetrator came to the grocery store pretending to be shopping at around 16.00 western Indonesia time.
However, because the shop was quiet, the perpetrator immediately went up to the 2nd floor of his house through the stairs next to the shop.
Then the perpetrator hid under a chair in the living room on the 2nd floor of the victim's house. The perpetrator hid until the night after the victim's shop closed.
At around 22.30 western Indonesia time, the perpetrator got out from under the chair and carried out his action towards the victim's stall which was closed.

"The shop closed around Magrib. He (the perpetrator) broke into around 22.30 western Indonesia time," said Dayat.
After getting the stolen money, the perpetrator jumped from inside the shop through the fence. The perpetrator climbed up the gate and walked away from the location of the shop.
The incident was discovered by the victim at around 04.30 western Indonesia time, when they were about to pray Fajr. At that time Haji Sadikin found his house in a mess. After checking it turned out that two bags containing money had been stolen. Also the piggy bank in the shop drawer.
Upon further investigation, it turned out that the perpetrator's actions were caught on CCTV cameras. Then after being seen, there were local residents who recognized the perpetrator's face. So that the perpetrator was arrested not far from the location.
When he was arrested, said Dayat, the perpetrator had almost become a target for residents who were annoyed with his actions.
"The perpetrator has also admitted his actions," he said.
The perpetrators were then handed over to the Matraman Police for further processing. The victim has also filed a police report.
"I have reported it to the Matraman Police. Hopefully, the perpetrators will give up on their actions and get the punishment they deserve," he said.
Confirmed separately, Matraman Police Chief, Commissioner Tedjo confirmed the arrest of the perpetrator of the theft.
"Yeah right, there was an arrest," he said.
