Russia Goes Crazy Again, Daily COVID-19 Death Case Reaches New Record

JAKARTA - The daily death toll from COVID-19 in Russia has again hit a record, namely 1.178 deaths in a day, bringing the total to 240.871 deaths.

On the same day, COVID-19 infections also rose by 39.008, bringing the total to 8.59 million infections.

Russia's COVID-19 emergency task force in its daily report stated that there are currently 939.698 active cases, close to one million.

Recovered cases have also increased, by 30.905 since Monday to 7.41 million cases, the report said.

Authorities revealed that three cases of the "mu" variant and one case of "lambda" were identified in Russia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin called the COVID-19 situation in his country "very severe", noting that the number of active cases was the highest since the pandemic began.

Russia's western Nizhegorodskaya Oblast has extended the holiday period from work in Russia until November 14 to contain the spike in cases.

From October 28, Russia has imposed a 10-day national work holiday aimed at suppressing the spread of the virus.

Since December 2019 the COVID-19 pandemic has claimed more than 5 million lives in 192 countries and regions, with over 247 million cases reported worldwide, according to the US' Johns Hopkins University. This was reported by Anadolu from Antara, Tuesday, November 2.
