JAKARTA - The Public Aviation Navigation Service Provider Agency (Perum LPPNPI) or AirNav Indonesia reminds the public not to fly kites around the airport area.

This is related to the case of the entanglement of a kite measuring 50 cm on the Citilink QZ 1107 aircraft on the Halim Perdanakusuma route (HLP) to Adi Sutjipto Airport (JOG) on Friday, October 23.

"Kites flown around the airport area can endanger airplanes that take off and land at the airport," said AirNav Indonesia's President Director, M. Pramintohadi Sukarno, in a written statement, Monday, October 26.

Pramintohadi explained that it is dangerous if the kite is sucked in by an aircraft engine, it can cause engine trouble. In fact, it can kill aircraft engines.

According to Pramintohadi, if the kite gets stuck on the aileron or the fins of the plane, it can cause interference with the aircraft rudder.

"If it gets stuck in the cockpit of the plane, it can interfere with the sensors on the aircraft, such as the altitude sensor and weather sensor, and result in the aircraft unable to land," he said.

As is known, Citilink flight number QZ 1107 type ATR 72-600 with the flight route of Halim Perdana Kusuma Airport, Jakarta-Adisutjipto Airport, Yogyakarta, experienced flight problems due to a kite last Friday.

At the time of the incident, the ATC on duty at Adi Sutjipto Airport traffic control tower had previously warned planes that were about to land to be aware of kites being flown around the airport area.

"When there is a pilot report who reports seeing kites around the airport, the procedure is we give a warning to other pilots, especially those who will land in the airport area. Luckily the ATR type aircraft can still land safely," Pramintohadi explained.
