JAKARTA - China Aerospace Science Technology Corporation (CASC) announced that the Long March 2C Rocket has successfully launched with a marine observation satellite called Haiyang-3 (01).

This rocket and satellite was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on Thursday, November 16 at 10:55 WIB. Upon arrival in the dawn-senja solar sync orbit, Haiyang-3 (01) will start operating.

Just like the Haiyang satellite of the other generation, Haiyang-3 will focus on observing the sea in all weather with the X-band Search and Rescue (SAR) payload. This satellite is targeted to work for eight years.

Although the purpose of the observations is the same, Haiyang-3 has a different way of observing the sea. This satellite uses a detection method that is able to provide continuous monitoring results related to water color, water temperature, sea ice, and many others.

This latest generation satellite will help the Haiyang-2 satellite, which uses a different method of observing the sea. This satellite focuses more on wind speed, sea level, and sea surface temperature.

All Haiyang satellites launched by CASC will be used to monitor climate change, track pollution, and navigate the sea. The satellite will be operated by the National Satellite Ocean Application Service (NSOAS).

For information, this satellite was developed by the China Academy of Space Technology (CAST), but the one launching it was CASC. With the launch of the first Haiyang-3, China has successfully launched 53 orbital launches so far this year.
