ASIOTI And BIIU Invite Governments To Associations To Build 5G Networks

JAKARTA Artificial Intelligence (AI) is very much needed in advancing technology. We cannot abandon the role of the 5G network according to the Indonesian IOT Association (ASIOTI) and the Indonesia Intelligence Unit (BIIU) business.

Currently, Indonesia is still having difficulty carrying out digital transformation due to the network gap. In fact, the average network speed in Indonesia is still low to rank 121 in this year's Global IndexTM report.

Seeing this problem, ASIOTI and BIHU encourage the government to accelerate internet expansion in Indonesia through the 5G network. This is because the need for fast network connections is urgently needed by the community, even for all industries.

"5G opens up our opportunities as telecommunications infrastructure producers, which we have been consuming, butt. Since the 2G, 3G, 4G, we are only asusers. 5G opens up opportunities, we can open it, we can make it," said ASIOTI Chair Teguh Prasetya in today's open forum.

To prove the urgency of the 5G network, BIIU conducted a survey on the Mapping of 5G Opportunities and Challenges and AI in the Vertical Industry in Indonesia. This survey is spread to various sectors, ranging from agriculture, road infrastructure, manufacturing, to mining.

As a result, 16 respondents consisting of associations, academies, and the government needed 5G to integrate the transportation system, support customer satisfaction, low latency needs, and many others.

BIIU itself realizes that the adoption of 5G networks has major challenges such as rising technology costs, security concerns, difficult regulatory requirements, to less mature technology.

However, many sectors are ready to welcome the 5G network. After all, 5G networks are needed to increase innovation in the present and future, support economic acceleration, and create new jobs.

In addition to encouraging the government to accelerate the addition of 5G networks and encourage the opportunity to operate 5Gprivate networks, ASIOTI and BIHU asked the National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), academics, and associations to work together.

ASIOTI and BIHU hope that BSSN can make stronger data security regulations amid requests for 5G networks. They also asked academics to encourage the presence of 5G networks, while academics need to support regulations from 5G.

"So this is actually a tit for tat, yes. Producers, ecosystems, industry, society, can be together if we go through 5G. But if not, yes, through the opportunity," said Teguh.

Meanwhile, the Director General of Post and Informatics at the Ministry of Communication and Information, Wayan Toni Supriyanto, who was present at the discussion forum today, said that his party continues to encourage the acceleration of the implementation of 5G technology.

Wayan said that Kominfo will strengthen pentahelix collaboration with other institutions, local governments, associations, all industry and business players, to academics and experts.

"Governments, Industry, Cellular Operators, Academics, and Practitioners need to pay attention so that the adoption of 5G technology, especially in sectors that are the main pillars of the Indonesian economy, can be implemented properly," Wayan said in the Keynote Speech session.

Wayan added that this collaboration requires careful readiness so that the 5G network can be developed optimally. With strong cooperation, Wayan believes that Indonesia can face the challenges of 5G implementation.
