JAKARTA - On Monday, November 6, OpenAI revealed a market that allows users to access "applications" of personalized artificial intelligence for tasks such as teaching mathematics or designing stickers. This signifies the company's ambition to expand its consumer business.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman shared this update at the first developer conference of AI laboratories, which attracted the interest of 900 developers from around the world. This is also the company's latest effort to take advantage of ChatGPT's popularity by offering incentives to build its ecosystem.

"ChatGPT, which was launched in November 2022, now has 100 million active weekly users," Altman said, quoted by VOI from Reuters.

OpenAI calls the personalized AI application "GPTs", which the company calls the initial version of the AI assistant who performs real-world tasks, such as ordering flights on behalf of users.

They will launch a GPT Store this month where people can share their GPT and make money based on the number of users. This is an updated effort from the company's failed attempt to build a chatGPT ecosystem this year.

"In the end, you'll just ask your computer what you need, and the computer will do all these tasks for you," Altman said in his keynote speech at an event held in San Francisco.

"We firmly believe that gradual implementation is the best way to address AI's security challenges. We think it is very important to move cautiously towards this future," added Altman.

In addition to GPTs, OpenAI also released a number of developers-focused updates, including significant cost cuts. This is an announcement that is greeted with cheers from the audience.

Before participants were allowed to check-in on Monday morning, hundreds of people had queued around the block in the Mid-Market San Francisco neighborhood. Most are developers who already use OpenAI technology and want to get updates.

Altman's live YouTube address attracted more than 40,000 viewers, and some even made a viewing show together.

For its 2 million developers, OpenAI announced a new GPT-4 Turbo model, which compared to its predecessor GPT-4 is much cheaper and processes more data.

They also launched an assistant application programming interface (API) with vision and image modalities. They also launched a beta program for developers to customize the GPT-4 model.

"This is a huge advantage for startups like us. Instantly, our costs have tripled, which is huge," said Flo Crivello, founder of assistant startup AI Lindy and co-conferent.

Crivello also admitted that Lindy could compete with the upcoming GPT bot from OpenAI, calling its startup relationship with OpenAI "complicate."

Speaking to the media on Monday, Altman warned startups using OpenAI technology against building apps that only have simple integration with OpenAI.

"We plan to build a clear feature," he said. "However, there is great value in building deeper integration on OpenAI."

Altman said he envisions a future where everyone has multiple GPTs who can work together to complete a task on their behalf.

OpenAI wants more companies and developers to build models that can compete with those developed by Anthropic and Alphabet's Google, as well as open source models such as Meta Platforms' Llama. They are also competing for corporate customers with Microsoft.

Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft who is an OpenAI supporter, made a shocking brief appearance at the conference. He repeated his support for the "expensive race" in building this basic model. Microsoft has invested more than $10 billion into OpenAI.

To address big company concerns, OpenAI launched the Custom Models program, which offers the creation of custom GPT-4 models at "expensive" prices.

They also offer to cover legal costs arising from copyright infringement claims for company users, in line with offers from Google and Microsoft.
