Intel Releases 14th Generation Desktop Processor With 6GHz Frequency

JAKARTA - Intel will launch its 14th generation desktop processor this week, promoting peak frequencies to reach 6GHz for the superior Core i9-14900K variant. Known as Raptor Lake Refresh, Intel will maintain the selling price of their Core i9, i7, and i5 14th generation processors this year, while maintaining the same retail price as the 13th generation when these new chips were launched on October 17.

With the 6GHz peak frequency at the new Core i9-14900K, Intel calls it the "fastest-to-largest desktop processor." This refers to the special variant 13900KS, which first reached a 6GHz frequency at a standard pace last year, but was not produced in large quantities. The 14th generation processor that may be more interesting in this update is the Core i7-14700K, thanks to a significant improvement in its core-core efficiency.

This year, Intel increased the number of cores on their Core i7 processors, switching from eight core efficiencies and eight core performances to twelve core efficiencies and eight core performances. That's a total of 20 cores for Core i7-14700K, approaching 24 cores on Core i9-14900K.

The base speed at core P is 3.4GHz and 2.5GHz on core E for 14700K, the same as the one at 13700K last year. This additional efficiency Core-core should help in creative tasks and even game play performance for titles that take advantage of multithreading.

Intel has several profitable benchmarks compared to AMD's Ryzen 97950X and even previous Core i7 processors for creative tasks. But we have to wait and see how this new Core i7-14700K compares to AMD's impressive chip, 7800X3D, in a gaming benchmark.

On the leading variant side, Intel's Core i9-14900K adds a Thermal Velocity Boost 6GHz frequency previously present in the Core i9-13900KS variant which cost US$699 (Rp10.9 million). The maximum turbo frequency for the core P increased by 200Hz to 5.6GHz this time, simultaneous with the 100MHz increase on the maximum core E turbo side. Even the fundamental frequency for both cores P and E also rose by 200MHz.

All of these 14th generation processors will function on Intel's 600- and 700-series series motherboards, as Intel still uses their 1700 LGA posets. They also support Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4 via discretized options that motherboard manufacturers can include in updated Z790 series motherboards. Intel also supports DDR5 5600 and DDR4 3200 memory velocities with their 14th generation chips.

The Core i9-14900K will be priced at around 589 US dollars (Rp9.2 million), where the Core i7-1700K for 409 US dollars (Rp 6.4 million) and the Core i5-14600K will be sold for around 319 US dollars (Rp 5 million). These three processors will be available through system assemblers and retailers on 17 October.
