JAKARTA - Following Hamas' terrorist attack on Israel, the European Commission warned Elon Musk regarding the spread of disinformation spreading on platform X.

Through a letter shared by one of the top European Commission officials Thierry Breton, on Tuesday, October 10, they found indications where platform X was used to "spread illegal and disinformation content in the EU."

"Let me remind you that the Digital Service Act sets a very precise obligation to moderate content," Breton wrote in his letter.

In general, Breton condemns the violent and terrorism content circulating on X. In addition, the European Commission also asked Musk to be more objective in taking action to remove the content.

"First, you have to be very transparent and clear about what content is permitted based on your terms and consistently and diligently enforce your own policies," explains Breton.

"Secondly, when you receive a notification about illegal content in the EU, you must be timely, diligent, and objective in taking action and removing related content if needed," he added.

Third, Breton asked Musk to implement proportional and effective mitigation measures to address risks to public security and civilian discourse originating from disinformation.

"Therefore I invite you to immediately ensure that your system is effective, and report the crisis actions taken to my team. Given the urgency, I also expect you to contact the relevant law enforcement authorities and Europol, and ensure that you immediately respond to their request," he further said.

Breton urged Musk to immediately respond quickly, accurately and completely to the request within the next 24 hours.
