Vitalik Buterin Discusses Ethereum's Future, Here's What He Says!

JAKARTA - Vitalik Buterin, one of the creators of Ethereum, recently raised concerns with his talks about the future direction of this leading blockchain network.

In a statement, Buterin is considering options to improve Ethereum, either by adding features directly to protocol or through Layer 2 development such as rollups. However, what is discussed is not only scalability, but also various other key aspects, including digital asset exchange, privacy, account security, and more.

When it was first launched, Ethereum had a vision to become a simple, efficient, and flexible protocol while giving developers the freedom to build a variety of applications on it. However, Buterin admits that this view has changed over time.

He noted several potential implementations that could improve protocols, such as account abstraction, Virtual Ethereum Machine (EVM), private pool, and liquid staking. However, he stressed the importance of making these changes carefully.

One of Buterin's important points is that Ethereum is no longer just a computing system, but a "social system." This means that there are special considerations that must be given in determining what should be implemented in the Ethereum protocol, which is different from approaches to individual computing.

He also warned that too many features added to the protocol could increase the risk of unwanted complexity or the emergence of useless features in the short term.

Buterin has previously emphasized the importance of keeping Ethereum from being too burdened by features that can interfere with its simplicity. He also highlighted the possibility of "app layer projects" that could distract from Ethereum's core rules.

This discussion underscores the main challenge in blockchain development, namely the balance between adding useful functionality and maintaining a simple essence that makes Ethereum unique.
