JAKARTA - According to a Wall Street Journal report on Sunday, September 10, Meta Platforms Inc., Facebook's parent company, is working on a new artificial intelligence (AI) system which is expected to be equivalent to the most advanced model offered by OpenAI. The report cites sources familiar with the matter.

Meta is ambitious for their new AI model to be ready for use next year, the WSJ reported, with the addition that the model will be several times more powerful than its commercial version known as Llama 2.

Llama 2 is a Meta open source AI language model launched in July and distributed through Microsoft's Azure cloud service to compete with OpenAI and Google's ChatGPT.

The planned system, although details can still change, will help other companies build services that produce advanced text, analysis, and other results, the newspaper reports.

Meta plans to start training this new AI system, known as a major language model, in early 2024, the report added. Until now, Meta has not responded to requests for comment from the media on the report.

Since the launch of OpenAI's ChatGPT at the end of last year, businesses and companies have flocked to this new AI genrative market to gain new capabilities and perfect their business processes.

Bloomberg News reported in July that Apple Inc., is also developing a similar AI offering to Google's OpenAI and Bard's ChatGPT, while building their own framework known as the 'Ajax' to create a large language model and test a chatbot that some engineers call Apple GPT.
