Pinterest Launches Many New Features For Youth Under 16 Years

JAKARTA - Pinterest launched a new feature created specifically to improve youth security on its platform, including personal profiles, more control over followers and others.

The company says users aged 16 and over can customize their profiles privately or publicly.

"Personal profiles cannot be found by others on the platform and will remain the default option and the only one for teens under the age of 16, unless they send a unique link to be found by their family and friends," Pinterest said, Tuesday, August 22.

Users will also have greater control over who can follow them. For teens under the age of 16, followers will be removed so they can decide who can follow and only collaborate with people they trust.

In addition, all users can review and delete their followers. Pinterest also releases more ways to help users make decisions about who can and cannot contact them.

Group messages and boards will be available to all users, as long as they give permission. Teens under the age of 16 can only send and receive messages from shared followers that have been received via a unique profile link.

However, the link will expire after three days or when they get five new followers with sharing links.

Furthermore, parents can already choose to request a code to change certain account settings in their children.

"We provide caregivers with the ability to easily choose to log in and out of their parents' codecodes and update protected settings on their teenage accounts," Pinterest said.
