Participating In The 2023 U-17 World Cup, Young Manchester United Captain Comments On JIS And VAR Conditions

JAKARTA - Manchester United U-17 captain Finley McAllister is one of the young players who will appear in the 2023 U-17 World Cup. He appeared to defend the England squad who are members of Group C.

The England U-17 national team and three other teams that are members of Group C are undergoing the group stage at the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS). The first time to try out the pride of Jakarta residents' stadium, Finley, who is also the captain of the England U-17 national team, gave his views.

He claims there is nothing different from the condition of the JIS field with the field used in his home country. Finley also admitted that he was quite enjoying the match in the stadium located in the North Jakarta area.

"Nothing is different (from JIS). The field is very good and supports our performance to give our best. Most of us really enjoy playing on this field," he told the media crew after a training session at the Madya Stadium, Senayan on Monday, November 13.

In addition to field matters, Finley McAllister also spoke about the use of the first VAR in the 2023 U-17 World Cup in Indonesia. He felt quite foreign to the many highlights directed at VAR because the technology was actually quite massively used in the Premier League.

The captain's sense of surprise cannot be separated from PSSI's decision as the country's football federation, which is the first time he has used this sophisticated facility. Where the U-17 World Cup became a trial and error moment for using VAR in Indonesia before it was actually implemented in Liga 1.

"This is a slightly different feeling for us because VAR has been used massively in the Premier League," he said.

"As a English player who is a member of the Premier League club academy, (VAR) is a familiar thing for us, so we quite know how to behave,"

"But because of the new VAR in the U-17 World Cup, this is also a challenge for us, and I am happy to accept and face these challenges," he explained.
