Premier League: Liverpool Vs Aston Villa, Darwin Nunez Becomes Starter

JAKARTA Darwin Nunez for the first time in the 2023-2024 season played as a starter. Nunez became one of three Liverpool forwards when they hosted Aston Villa in the Premier League at Anfield, Sunday night (3/9) WIB.

The appearance of the Uruguayan international as a starter could not be separated from his good performance by contributing two goals in the Reds' victory over Newcastle United last weekend. Nunez's entry as a starter was one of three changes made by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Apart from Nunez, Klopp's changes were playing Diogo Jota replacing Cody Gakpo and Curtis Jones who shifted Wataru Endo to accompany Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai in midfield of the Reds.

The absence of Virgil van Dijk who was hit by a red card and his injury Ibrahima Konate made Klopp lower the duo of Joe Gomez and Joel Matip at the heart of Liverpool's defense accompanied by Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robetson.

Meanwhile, from Aston Villa, Unai Emery's manager is confirmed again to field Emiliano Martinez as goalkeeper for displacing Robin Olsen. Meanwhile, ten other players did not change like when they beat Burnley last weekend. Two new recruits of The Villans, Clement Lenglet and Nicolo Zaniolo will sit on the bench.
