UFC Fight Night: Cyril Gane Shining Again, Lumat Serghei Spivac Through TKO Round 2

JAKARTA French heavyweight MMA fighter Cyril Gane beat his opponent from Moldova, Serghei Spivac via TKO round 2. The Gane vs Spivac duel was held at the UFC Fight Night event at Accor Arena, Paris on Saturday night, September 2, 2023 or Sunday morning WIB.

Gane, 33, a former UFC interim heavyweight champion, is trying to rise from defeat in the previous duel against Jon Jones. In the UFC heavyweight title race in Las Vegas on March 5, Gane was defeated by Jones via submission in just one round. Gane strives to remain in the top ranks of UFC heavyweight fighters.

Facing Spivac (28) Gane, who fought at home, appeared aggressive. The fighter, who has a Muay Thai martial background, relies more on the top fight, with punches and occasionally kicks. Gane's aggressive appearance made it difficult for Spivac, and defended more.

Until finally, in round 2 towards the end of the 3rd minute, Gane's hitting was no longer able to be blocked by Spivac. The Moldovan fighter, nicknamed the Polar Bear, only defended while protecting his head with a double cover, without trying to retaliate. Referee Marc Goddard also made the decision to stop the duel, and gave TKO victory for Gane.

"I'm very happy tonight, because my mission was fulfilled. Everyone knows that my performance before this ended was not good, so I have to try hard to stay in the top ranks. And this time I succeeded," said Gane after the fight, quoted by Marca.

After this victory Cyril Gane is likely to face a rising British fighter, Tom Aspinal, for a chance to challenge Jones.
