Atletico Madrid Deposits Name In La Liga History Book

JAKARTA Atletico Madrid destroyed city rival Rayo Vallecano in the third week of La Liga 2023/2024 to win their biggest away win in the history of competition.

The 7-0 victory that was secured by Diego Simeone's team occurred in an away match to Vallecano's headquarters at the Estadio de Vallecas, Tuesday, August 29 in the morning WIB.

The team nicknamed Los Rojiblancos had a 3-0 lead in 36 minutes in the first half. The lead in the first half was scored by Antoine Griezmann, Memphis Depay, and Nahuel Molina.

Four goals in a span of 13 minutes in the second half then completed the win. Two of the four goals were scored by Alvaro Morata, while the other two were netted by Angel Correa and Marcos Llorente.

This victory is Atletico's biggest away win in La Liga history as well as for the second time they scored seven goals in a single party in this competition in the 21st century after fighting Getafe in 2013.

An additional three points put Atletico in second place in the standings from three matches. They collected seven points or two behind Real Madrid who were at the top.

"We've played a great party from the start, with a high intensity. These are three important points and I'm very happy with the team's performance," Griezmann said.

The only problem Atletico had to get in this big win was that they lost an international Dutch player, Depay, who was injured in the first half.

In the following week, Atletico will play a home match at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium, Sunday 3 September. They will have a visitors team Sevilla.
