Ace Record Holder At ATP Tour Announces Pension, US Open 2023 Becomes The Last Tournament

JAKARTA - The American tennis legend, John Isner, finally decided to retire. He will hang up his racket after his participation at the US Open 2023.

The 38-year-old is preparing to take part in the 17th US Open in his career. The Grand Slam tournament will be the end of Isner's journey which has been participating in the ATP Tour for more than 17 years.

Isner announced his decision through his social media account, Wednesday, August 23.

"After 17+ years of participating in the ATP Tour, this is the time to say goodbye to professional tennis," wrote Isner, who has four children with his wife, Maddie.

"This transition will not be easy but I look forward to every second with my extraordinary family," he continued.

Isner's career in the tennis world is extraordinary. He is the leader of the all-time ATP Tour in terms of ace with 14,411 ace.

Quoted from AFP via Antara, Isner is the top-ranked American player in year-end rankings for nine consecutive years from 2012-2020 and is in the top 20 world rankings for a decade from 2010-2019.

Isner has won 16 single ATP titles and eight double titles. He routinely strengthens the US Davis team, recording 15 single wins and two double wins in 18 appearances at the men's team international tournament.

All (only two of them) his single ATP win took place in the United States, including a 2018 win over Alexander Zverev to win the Miami Masters title.

He has won six titles in Atlanta and four titles in Newport.

Isner is also known for Wimbledon's first-half marathon match against French Nicolas Mahut in 2010. He won 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(7/9), 7-6(7/3), 70-68 in the match, a match that took 11 hours and five minutes to play for three days.
