VAR Use In Liga 1 Asked Not To Come Home, Bali United Coach: There Needs To Be A Study In The Field

JAKARTA - Liga 1 2023/2024 Competition will conduct a number of breakthroughs. One of them is the use of video assistant referee (VAR).

The steps taken by PT Liga Indonesia Baru (LIB) and the All-Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) have received support from a number of parties. However, there are several notes that must be considered.

Bali United coach Stefano Cugurra assesses that there needs to be a field study before implementing the VAR system to support the League 1 match.

"About VAR, I think there should be time to study and conduct studies by doing tests in the field," said Cugurra, as quoted by Antara.

He revealed that there were several countries that implemented the VAR well. However, there are also those that end up unsatisfactory because the technology often stops during matches.

"Sometimes there are eight to nine minutes for the referee's decision and this is disruptive to the match," he added.

However, the Brazilian coach did not provide details of the country's experience that had implemented VAR, both successful and underperforming. He also hopes that there will be good communication between the referee in the field and those in the VAR so that the match will continue to run well.

"Hopefully the VAR referees and referees in the field also have good communication so that they can quickly make decisions on the field of the match," added the coach who is familiarly called Coach Teco.

He hopes that after going through good assessment and study stages, the system will be useful and useful for the progress of football in Indonesia. The use of VAR was previously conveyed in the 2023/2024 Liga 1 local committee refreshment forum which took place in Jakarta, Friday, June 16.

VAR plans not to implement centralization centered in Jakarta but a decentralization that is directly located at the location of the stadium that organizes the match. Later, if the organizing stadium does not have a room for VAR, a mobile VAR will be prepared to support VAR's performance.

Currently, PT LIB is being prepared to compete in human resources (HR) and implement the use of VAR to budget readiness. It is estimated that the use of VAR will cost almost Rp. 100 billion.
