Leeds United Supporters Willing To Pay IDR 9.2 Million To Burn Manchester United Hotel Tickets, Twitter Users Divide

JAKARTA - An eccentric act was taken by a Leeds United fan. He was willing to spend a lot of money just to burn a ticket to the Manchester United hotel.

Surprisingly again, it was done during a charity auction. As reported by The Sun, the fan paid 500 pounds (around Rp9.2 million) as long as it was allowed to burn the ticket that was auctioned.

The two tickets to Manchester United Corporate Hospitality Experience have actually reached an offer of 100. That number shot up sharply when the man filed a 500-pound offer, provided he could burn it.

In a video circulating, the Leeds fan is seen bringing a match and setting a fire to the corner of the ticket. He then put the ticket into a bucket.

He then appointed the Ember to show the auction participants. This action was greeted by the singing of football and cheers from the audience.

The video was then uploaded by Danny Waite, one of the Leeds residents, to Twitter. Inevitably, the video went viral quickly.

" Leeds fans bought it and burned it. I know he likes Leeds a lot of games, he's a big fan. Obviously, because it's a charity event, the auctioneer just agreed," Waite wrote accompanying the video.

"Everyone cheered, there were a lot of Leeds fans in that room. It was quite funny and 500 pounds were immediately donated so obviously everyone was very cheerful."

"A boy who played football with me, his mother died two years ago, so we do it every year to raise money for St. Gemma's," Waite continued.

The Leeds fan's actions led to pros and cons. One of those who supported seeing the action was not wrong.

"500 pounds is donated to charity. You don't see the problem," said one Twitter user.

"Support this completely," tweeted another.

But social media users who were less impressed with this action said, "Wow, the mentality of a toddler."

This charity party at the Queens Hotel, Leeds, was held in memory of Sharon Witcher, a mother who died two years ago due to cancer.

A spokesman for St Gemma Hospital said, "We are aware that one of our outstanding supporters is organizing his annual charity party to help St Gemma Hospital this weekend, in memory of his mother."
