2023 Asian Badminton Championships: KW Women Stopped, Three Indonesian Doubles Advance To The Last 16

JAKARTA - The Indonesian women's singles step, Putri Kusuma Wardani, in the 2023 Asian Badminton Championships ran aground in the first round. Despite losing one representative, Indonesia sent three representatives from the doubles sector to the next round.

In the first round match at Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Indoor Hall, Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Wednesday, April 26 afternoon WIB, Putri KW lost against Taiwanese representative Sung Shuo Yun. Passing two tense games, Putri KW lost with a final score of 16-21 and 13-21.

Despite losing one representative in the women's singles sector, there is good news for the Indonesian team. Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari who went down in the mixed doubles number managed to qualify for the round of 16.

They managed to win a ticket to the follow-up round after facing Sri Lanka's representative, Dias Chamath/Gunasekera Natasha. In the two games that were passed, the Indonesian mixed doubles won convincingly with a score of 21-8, 21-12.

Good news comes from the women's doubles sector. Meilysa Trias Puspitasari/Rachel Alllessya Rose who appeared after Putri KW gave an bidder for the women's singles defeat.

Appearing in the first round of the 2023 Team Asian Championships against representatives of India, Meilysa/Rachel's struggle did not go easy.

They had to go through three long games to beat Arwini Bhat/Shikha Gautam with a final score of 20-22, 21-12, and 21-18.

Meanwhile, Febriana Dwi Puji Kusuma/Amalia Cahaya Pratiwi also stepped into the next round after defeating Chang Ching Hui/Yang Chin Tun. They won over the Taiwanese representative with a score of 23-21, 14-21 and 21-15.

In the first round of the 2023 Team Asia Championships, 15 representatives of Merah Putih appeared. One representative who has also been eliminated is the pair Rehan Naufal Kusharjanto/Lisa Ayu Kusumawati.

Meanwhile, one representative in the men's singles, Jonatan Christie, was confirmed to have resigned because of impossible conditions.
