Mechanical Competition Between SMK/Suzuki Indonesia

JAKARTA - Increasing the skills of the nation's next generation is a shared responsibility that must be pursued by both the government and the private sector. As one of the automotive companies in the country, PT Suzuki Indomobil Sales (SIS) has a vision to help build future generations, one of which is through contributions in the field of education.

Suzuki Indonesia has consistently made various educational efforts to students through the Suzuki Cares for Education program. One of the activities in the program is the Inter-vocational Vocational School Mechanics Competition which has been going on for the last 3 years.

Through the Inter- SMK Mechanics Competition, Suzuki targets young people, especially vocational students who study in the field of Light Vehicle Engineering (TKR) to prepare human resources who are ready to compete in the field of work.

Asst. to Service Dept. Head of PT SIS Hariadi revealed that Suzuki is committed to supporting education in Indonesia through various efforts such as training and car donations to machinery for learning needs.

"Stupporting the advancement of education in Indonesia is one of our commitments. We realize this support with various efforts, one of which is to introduce the industrial world, especially automotive so that more young people are competent and ready to compete in the industrial landscape," he said in an official statement received by VOI.ID, Saturday, November 18.

In 2023 there were 136 vocational schools from several areas such as Bandung, Semarang, Bangka Belitung, Lampung, Bali, Jakarta, Bekasi, Sulawesi, and others participating in the mechanical competition.

As a criterion, SMKs that can participate in contests are schools that have a Light Vehicle Engineering (TKR) or SMK in collaboration with the official Suzuki dealer network. The success of the routine of holding contests as has been implemented in Semarang and Bangka Belitung is an inspiration to organize similar things in several other cities in 2023, such as Bali, Jakarta, Bekasi, Tangerang and others.

This activity received a positive response from vocational teachers and students which was reflected in enthusiasm and perseverance during the competition. Through the Mechanical Competition between vocational schools, it is also reflected in the spirit of the younger generation in the automotive sector to compete in a healthy manner and continue to develop themselves.

For the assessment criteria, Suzuki applies the 5S principle, namely Seiri (Ringkas), Seiton (Rapi), Seiso (Resik), Seiketsu (Rawat), and badminton (Rajin). In addition, the assessment is also determined by the participant's skills in carrying out safety principles, as well as the ability of theory and practice to carry out periodic service (periodic maintenance service).

"We hope that through this program and the various activities that have been carried out can increase the enthusiasm of students in developing their potential. Because in the future technological developments, especially in the automotive industry, will also be faster so that they require the high adaptability ability of the nation's successors," he concluded.
